Introductory fares start at $49 one way for travel into mid-June, according to Southwest's website.

The Dallas Morning News reports the first flights will take off on March 17 and are now listed as cheaply as $49 one-way.

The airline didn't formally announce the start of ticket sales but quietly launched a Hawaii ticket portal Monday.

Snow continues overnight, but the rain/snow line will be inching north as some low level warm air gets brought in from the south. The Tri-state area spent Saturday morning cleaning their walks and brushing off their cars after a sudden blast of winter.

Passengers could fly between Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu as early as March 19, and to Kahului Airport on April 8. Southwest proved to the FAA that they can do long-haul, over ocean flights just like the other larger airlines that serve the Hawaiian islands.

Southwest's entry into the Hawaiian market will be closely watched, with many hoping increased competition will lead to lower fares.

Southwest Airlines officials previous year announced that it planned to fly to Hawaii from four California cities: San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose and Oakland. Details about flights to and from Lihue, on Kauai, will also be announced soon.
