Murray announced at an emotional press conference ahead of the Australian Open in January that he planned to retire after Wimbledon

Murray broke down in tears at the Australian Open in January, saying in his pre-tournament news conference in Melbourne that he planned to retire after this year's Wimbledon because of the pain in his hip.

Asked if Wimbledon would be too soon for him, Murray added: "For singles it would be, can't say for sure but doubles, I mean Bob Bryan was back playing at the Australian Open after five and a half months".

Before losing to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round of the Australian Open at the start of the year, an emotional Murray admitted that he had been living in pain with putting on his socks and shoes giving him grief during his daily routine.

The three-time Grand Slam victor had hinted at retirement before going out of the Australian Open in the first round in January as he struggled to deal with ongoing pain from a long-standing hip problem. I need to wait and see how things progress. "That's kind of the time frame that I've set myself in my head that if things aren't going well", he said.

Speaking at Queen's Club as he announced a long-term partnership with clothing firm Castore, the former World No.1 said: "I want to continue playing - I said that in Australia".

Andy Murray has revealed the pain in his hip has disappeared but remains unsure whether he will be fit to compete at Wimbledon this summer. "The issue is I don't know whether it is possible". "If it's possible, I'd certainly love to compete again".

The club are also said to be tracking Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly and want to add another midfielder to the squad. The former Manchester City winger has faltered as Dortmund have, with the team winning just one of their last six games.

Speaking to CNN, Murray explained that he had nothing to prove, but wanted to prolong his career for his own pleasure. I want to see what it is I want to do when I finish playing.

"If I'm able to, I will try". It's not about that.

"I don't think my hip will be worse than it was then".

He added that, as well as the constant pain caused by his hip, he had fought an ongoing mental battle as he sought to keep the issue away from the public eye.

"But I tell you, if anybody can do it he can because he will put his heart and soul into it, like he does with everything". "It's not that long since he had the operation and time will tell".

It seemed certain that he was facing the end of his golden career as a number of leading tennis players - including Rodger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal - paid tribute to the Scotsman via a video on court after his five-set defeat to Agut.
