According to YTN, a source from YG revealed, "Seungri's retirement announcement was not a decision made after consulting with YG, but a decision made on his own".

Investigators are looking into the suspicion that Seungri used various nightclubs in Seoul's Gangnam district for lobbying and even attempted to introduce escorts to foreigners to encourage them to invest in his business ventures.

The singer took to Instagram to announce his decision.

At this point, I think it would be best if I retire from the entertainment industry.

"During the past month and a half, I have received criticism and hate from the public and been in a situation where every investigative agency in this country is investigating me".

"As I've been branded as a "national traitor", I can not stand the fact that I'm harming others for my own sake", he added.

Big Bang, a boy band formed in 2006 by YG Entertainment, is now on hiatus.

Seungri's retirement post has been "liked" more than 810,000 times and commented on 210,000 times on Instagram. "Thank you for everything throughout the years". Under the #SeungriDeservesBetter, user ayobigbang wrote: "We call on the real fans' voice, do not fall into the shameless trap, we support Seungri!".

Seungri himself has been cleared of drug use via a recent drug test. Unfortunately for him, that all had to be scrapped once he became the prime suspect in the Burning Sun investigation. The 31-year-old was sentenced to a 10-month suspended jail sentence after publicly apologizing and expressing remorse.

Numerous greatest bands in history had to deal with controversy at one point or another.
