Chelsea-linked Zidane set for Real Madrid return

The club has chose to part ways with current coach Solari after a meeting between the Real board of directors.

Real Madrid star, Marcelo, berated his teammates and clashed with Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos in the training session.

But Ramos was given a two-game ban by Uefa for "clearly receiving a yellow card on purpose" and Real, having won three Champions Leagues in a row, went out after losing 4-1 at the Bernabeu.

Real are now third in La Liga, 12 points behind leaders Barcelona.

Ramos posed a series of questions to himself on social media after Madrid had beaten Real Valladolid 4-1 in La Liga on Sunday night. The former player could remain with the club despite of Zidane's arrival, but in a different position.

Madrid players intervened to stop the dispute escalating.

Zidane, who only quit last summer, is the favoured candidate across the club's board.

Zidane Marcelo

The level-headed coach took over in January 2016 and immediately won over the squad with his calm manner and easy-going attitude.

"And of course he is an idol with the fans - playing for the club as well as managing them to three Champions League trophies in a row".

Zidane, 46, left the job in May after leading Madrid to the third Champions League title during his tenure.

Jugones claimed the decision will be made official at some time after 18.00h on Monday, with Solari set to be dismissed after Madrid's season fell apart last week.

Zidane stepped down following the Champions League final victory over Liverpool, and Julen Lopetegui was hired as his successor just before the World Cup where he had been due to lead Spain, who promptly sacked him. He lasted only a few months at the helm.

It is unclear whether Zidane will take charge until the end of the season or sign a longer-term contract.
