Video praising China's Huawei goes viral as company distances itself

With its stirring patriotic lyrics and charming young voices a children's choir has become a surprise hit in China with a song extolling the virtues of Huawei, the technology company suspected of spying in the West.

The song, Huawei Beauty, was posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo Wednesday, according to Reuters, which cited China's state-run tabloid the Global Times.

Reuters has reported that Huawei is unsurprisingly trying to distance itself from a video featuring children that literally sing the company's praises.

In the video, the children are dressed in red and white t-shirts emblazoned with the word "China", and perform a dance routine.

The pug, named Edda, was initially seized in the German town of Ahlen after her owners fell behind on city debt repayments. Jordan said Edda has since needed four operations, including an emergency operation over Christmas.

The lyrics were written by Li Youroung, a former member of the People's Liberation Army's song and dance troupe and Zang Sijia, who writes for China's Public Security Department.

Critics say the USA case is short on specifics and glosses over the fact that China doesn't need secret access to Huawei routers to infiltrate global networks that already have notoriously poor security.

Washington has mounted an intense diplomatic offensive that paints Huawei as an untrustworthy servant of Beijing's intelligence agencies.

The song has been criticised and mocked by some internet users who said it was overly nationalist. One user said that the video was a "good intention turned bad", because it would easily be perceived by the West as a piece of propaganda and add to global mistrust of the company. "Huawei softpower?" said another.

'Please don't force children to create such propaganda videos, they are not your tools, ' one user commented. Thanks all for the love and support to Huawei'.
