Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV Automobiles says it plans to cut the third shift at its Windsor, Ont., assembly plant later this year at a cost of about 1,500 jobs. "We've notified the company that we want to meet immediately with Mike Manley, the CEO of FCA", he said.

The Italian-American automaker plans to eliminate the third shift at its assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, beginning September 30, according to an emailed statement.

Fiat Chrysler announced in late February the construction of a new auto plant in Detroit, the first for 27 years in "Motor City", as part of a $4.5 billion investment plan to create 6,500 jobs in the United States. Unifor national president Jerry Dias was just as shocked as Cassidy.

Provincial and federal government authorities also expressed their concern.

"We are going to keep pressure on FCA on product and fully utilize our facility".

In a news release, Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the announcement "extremely disappointing", and said his government will fight to protect the jobs of auto workers in Windsor.

Formula One: Vettel welcomes Mick Schumacher to Ferrari test
Schumacher clinched his second title that season, before Hill won the drivers' championship the following year. He suffered a serious brain injury in a skiing accident in 2013. "I have a lot of sympathy for Mick", he said.

The automotive company says the move is being made because they're cutting the plant from three shifts to two.

"This has got nothing to do with the plant, nothing to do with Chrysler, nothing to do with the vehicle itself, nothing to do with the unions, it is Adam Smith pure and simple".

Canada and the USA have lost jobs in the auto sector as productions shifts to emerging markets like China, Mexico and India where demand is high and labour is cheap.

"The auto sector clearly is on the downside of the cycle, where you expect these things to happen".

Both Windsor and Oshawa are built around the auto industry. It directly employs more than 125,000 people. "So we'll see, because obviously it's critical to the economy".
