Disney's 'Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge' Theme Park Lands Will Open This Year

Due to "high guest interest", Disney has made the choice to push up the opening of both of the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge parks in California and Florida, the company announced during a shareholder's call on Thursday.

Reservations will be required for Disneyland visitors who plan to visit the Star Wars-themed land from May 31 to June 23.

The park was originally slated to open in the fall.

The resort said the planned openings are ahead of schedule, but the initial opening will be considered "phase one". One-of-a-kind merch from Galaxy's Edge will include customized lightsabers, customizable astromech droids that can actually interact with park elements, new gear with Resistance and First Order logos and "antiquities" including Jedi and Sith artifacts. However, the new park's biggest feature - Rise of the Resistance, described by Disney as "the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined" - will be part of a Phase 2 opening later this year.

And yet, this makes us wonder what the opening months of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will look like with only one major attraction.

Further unique touches include 18K gold plated organ stops inspired by those in the No.9 "Blower" and "1 of 100" treadplates. Bentley's personal 1930 8.0-liter inline-six engine and sliced it into 100 slivers for mounting in 100 special Mulsanne W.O.

According to the release, guests will be transported "to live their own Star Wars adventures in Black Spire Outpost, a village on the remote planet of Batuu".

Disney also said guests wanting to experience the new Star Wars land will need to make a "no-cost reservation" to access the land.

Galaxy's Edge, the land where theme park guests will be able to join the Resistance in its battle against the First Order in the Star Wars saga, will open August 29 at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

As Disney explains, the decision to open the land early and save Ride of the Resistance for later in 2019 is a move created to allow guests to enjoy the Star Wars land as soon as possible.
