A flood warning issued Wednesday by the National Weather Service in Des Moines remains in effect until 10:15 a.m. Thursday for Dallas and Guthrie counties. Potential for ice jams is possible in low lying areas typically prone to flooding.

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) on Friday declared an "unusual event" at its Cooper nuclear power station in Nebraska due to the possibility of flooding along the Missouri River following a powerful winter storm this week.

Further north in Nebraska, the Missouri and Platte rivers were flooding in and around Omaha. On Tuesday, the company began emergency preparations, including sandbagging and barricading facilities. That is about three feet above flood stage. At 20.0 feet, gravel roads on the west and south sides of Redfield are affected as well as Delta Circle Road in the vicinity of the H Avenue bridge.

The Omaha-Valley weather service office said it was evacuating its personnel. "Projections earlier this morning, based on the gauge when it was functioning, indicates we could reach 902 or higher after midnight", he said. "I have no place to go", said Dale Chaney of Percival. The highways were being reopened Friday, but the flooding situation wasn't improving as rapidly as the travel conditions.

Heartland Co-op crews have moved equipment to higher ground and citizens are working this morning to clear out a storage building near First Street.

More than 140,000 farm acres are anticipated to be affected by the flooding. The story is much the same throughout the central US, where flooding swamped small towns, forced residents to evacuate, and threatened to temporarily close a nuclear power plant in Nebraska.

MoDOT is also working with Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa to prepare detour plans in anticipation of the rising floodwaters closing major roadways.

Flood warnings are in effect for almost the entirety of Eastern Nebraska, portions of Sioux Falls and Yankton, South Dakota.
