EA joins Sony in dropping its E3 press conference for 2019

Even Sony has chose to dodge the event, stating that it's looking for "inventive opportunities to engage the community".

Electronic Arts has announced dates for its EA Play event this year at E3 2019 and it will not host a press conference.

While this sounds like a complete 180 for a company that just a few years ago had a keynote alongside the likes of Sony and Microsoft, EA has slowly been moving away from the traditional approach that other publishers take at the industry's largest trade show.

E3 2019 will be kicking off on June 7th and there's bound to be plenty of nice surprises and various leaks as there is each year. While the post doesn't detail specific plans for the day, it does claim there will be "multiple live streams" to replace a more standard press conference.

They will be playing in front of an energetic crowd, Irving is out and the Celtics are on the second night of a back-to-back. Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving will miss the game against the Sacramento Kings with a thigh injury.

EA says that, instead of the typical press conference, it'll be hosting its free-to-attend EA Play event on the weekend before E3, or June 8 and 9.

"We'll also have content creators streaming live from our Creator's Cave in the Hollywood Palladium providing gameplay content to our players viewing online".

According to a blog post on EA's website, the new format will offer "more gameplay and insights from the teams making the games" and less time with someone up on a stage.
