Trump orders Boeing 737 Max fleet grounded in US

In an interview with The Associated Press, Asrat Begashaw said the airline has "a range of options" for the data and voice recorders of the flight's last moments. An airline official has said one of the recorders was partially damaged.

Europeans tend to book their summer holidays in May, so the grounding may not yet affect bookings for the peak season for the airline industry, the analyst said.

The 737 Max airlines are a small percentage of the fleets for both American and Southwest Airlines, having been introduced into service just two years ago.

Airline pilots on at least two USA -flown Boeing 737 Max 8 planes had reported that the automated system caused the aircraft's nose to tilt down sharply and suddenly after take-off.

'However, after consultation with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and aviation authorities and its customers around the world, Boeing has determined - out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public of the aircraft's safety - to recommend to the FAA the temporary suspension of operations of the entire global fleet of 371 737 Max aircraft'.

The crash came a month after the Lion Air crash in October involving the same model aircraft.

Meantime, there is no evidence at all that the travelling public should have any concerns about the safety of other Boeing 737 aircraft types, the types that most of our Australian airlines now operate. Egypt banned the operation of the aircraft.

Earlier in the day, an Ethiopian Airlines spokesman said that the black boxes of the Boeing 737 Max 8 would be sent to Germany for analysis. Lion Air confirmed reports it has put on hold the scheduled delivery of four of the jets.

"This evidence, together with newly refined satellite data available to FAA this morning, led to this decision".

Boeing stock dropped more than 2% in trading Wednesday afternoon after President Trump ordered the grounding of the 737 Max aircraft.

Some of the complaints appear to involve the same anti-stall system, according to a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration database.
