Getting carried away: Wind lifts man metres off ground in Turkey

A man in southern Turkey was taken on a wild ride after strong winds lifted him - and the umbrella he was holding onto - nearly 13 feet in the air.

Kocadalli stepped on the umbrella's base in an effort to provide some ballast but such was mother nature's wrath that the ferocious winds simply lifted him off the ground to the consternation of his friends.

As the umbrella takes off, Kocadalli is carried about 4m (13ft) into the air. "I think I rose three or four meters", the accidental Mary Poppins impersonator told reporters. Thankfully, I am OK.

As the umbrella crashed back to earth it struck Mehmet Ali Bıçakçı, who was knocked unconscious, and sustained a broken foot and ribs thanks to the rogue umbrella.

CCTV video of the incident went viral after it was released by Turkish press agency Anadolu and Turks responded on Twitter with a flood of memes, with users guessing where the intrepid Kocadalli might have landed.
