Giants Agree To Trade Olivier Vernon To Browns

The Browns are sending offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler to the Giants in exchange for Giants pass-rusher Olivier Vernon, according to News 5 sources.

The Browns have already pulled off one trade with the Giants this week and it appears they tried to pull off another one just days earlier that would have been much, much bigger. Injuries have cost him nine games over the last two seasons, but he has delivered 13.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss over that span and Pro Football Focus was high on his work last season.

Some mid-round picks were swapped, but mostly, this was a rare player-for-player swap.

Vernon was cast as an outside linebacker in New York's 3-4 defense and was an effective player, but he'll move back to being a defensive end for new Browns' defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. He is due to earn $10 million this season. Vernon could start at left end, though the Browns also have Emmanuel Ogbah there.

Halapio started the first two games of 2018 before he broke his right leg and ankle and underwent surgery, missing the rest of the season. No shot Gettleman would ever give up the generational talent that is OBJ for players such as those named. He has three years remaining on his five-year, $60 million contract.

The man repeatedly tells the officers that he lived at the apartment complex, was simply picking up rubbish and was not armed. Meanwhile, the initial responding officer, whose name hasn't been released, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Giants struggled mightily to protect Eli Manning last season, allowing 47 sacks.

NY also re-signed center Jon Hilapio, who was an exclusive-rights free agent and is projected to be a starter in 2019.

A first-round pick by the Bengals in 2012, Zeitler was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016.

Vernon might be a decent pass rusher, but he made some boneheaded mistakes a year ago. Corbett saw very limited playing time as a rookie.
