Google Allo Says "Goodbye" Today

Google Allo Death

Google Allo Death

You had your messages, your Allo and Duo, your Hangouts Chat and Meet, your YouTube chat, Voice, Hangouts Classic and so on.

To get suggested actions, you'll need the latest version of the Google Messages app. Even so, we've tried to trigger it using the example below and it didn't work, so we're not sure quite how to get it running yet. It is on the same support page that the company notes "We're saying goodbye to Allo on March 12, 2019". We will forever remember March 12 as the day Allo died.

Allo used phone numbers as a login, similar to WhatsApp.

Google never really made the case for why people should move to Allo, and consumers the world over didn't sit around waiting for it.

The 34-year-old has had an illustrious career as a safety and defensive back, moving around the field to play coverage and box. The Giants are set to lose strong safety Landon Collins to Washington on a six-year deal that was reached Monday.

"Suggested actions" has appeared in the settings under the same heading as smart replies, which makes sense since they're both AI-leveraging features. However, it lacked SMS integration, a desktop app, and multi-device support. At the time, Google was in the midst of announcing a reorganisation of its entire messaging platform strategy, which is a mess. It didn't technically kill Allo at that time, but it "paused" investment.

Google Allo isn't the only Google service that it is being discontinued this month.

Today, Google is culling one of those apps. Just open Allo's menu on your Android device, open up the Chat settings menu, and tap "Chat backup".

"Export media" lets you drag down all your photos, videos and other data. Using a separate option, you can save all media in a ZIP archive. Exporting messages from chats won't include photos or videos.
