Dee Ford rumors: Packers, 49ers show interest in Chiefs pass rusher

The Kansas City Chiefs floated the idea that pass rusher Dee Ford could be available via trade this offseason for the right price, and apparently, the line was enough to draw a couple of potential bites, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. To no one's surprise, two teams that figure to enter the upcoming season as playoff contenders are reportedly in the mix for Ford, who was franchise tagged by the Chiefs earlier this week. The other team is the Green Bay Packers.

The 49ers are coming off a season where they finished with only 37 sacks, tied for 22nd in the league.

If, of course, the Packers or 49ers (or whoever trades for him) would be offering the kind of long-term deal that Ford would find to be suitable, a possible fight over the franchise tag would become secondary to cashing in. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they were, however, willing to listen to trade discussions for the 27-year-old defensive player.

Then there's the fact that the draft consists of plenty of great pass rushers. In only two of his five seasons, he's managed to reach a double-digit sack total.

Ford, who famously lined up offside, wiping out a game-sealing interception in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots, had an incredible season despite his postseason blunder.

The Chiefs placed their franchise tag on Ford recently but they have shown signs of being open to moving him soon.
