However, creating a smartphone with a full-screen display where all sensors embedded into the screen is the ultimate goal of the company.

The report comes less than a month after Samsung debuted its latest line of flagship smartphones.

But phone screens can still get better. The vice president of Samsung Display's R&D group, Yang Byung-duk, said that while the technology to create a full-screen smartphone won't be ready in the next 1-2 years, at least the technology can advance so much that selfie cameras can work from under the display.

Samsung's newest device lineup includes the Galaxy S10, which is the first smartphone to feature its futuristic "Infinity O" display. In a briefing this week, Samsung made it clear that while the Infinity-O display of the S10 is a "milestone", it's also a stepping stone on the path to a true full-screen display - one unimpeded by hole punches or bezels.

She spoke to reporters late Tuesday after a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Maputo to discuss the deadly flooding. More than 168,000 hectares (415,000 acres) of crops were destroyed, the government spokeswoman added.

The two-year timeframe given by the company is not a definitive one and it could be years before handsets with under-display front cameras are released. While Samsung is attempting to manufacture a ideal display, other OEMs have been trying to eliminate ports and buttons for a more seamless design. Don't expect to see it on the Galaxy S11 next year, or even the Galaxy S12 the year after that, however.

Ultimately when the technology does arrive in phones, it will likely be accompanied the integration of other technologies such as speakers and fingerprint readers in the screen itself, making the dream of the all-screen phone finally a reality.

Samsung said in a presentation last October that it was looking into several different technologies to maximize screen space, according to The Verge.
