Iranian President, PM Khan agree on closer cooperation in combatting terrorism

The minister said that global cricket should now return to Pakistan, adding that Prime Minister Imran Khan was also focusing on revival of worldwide cricket in the country as he had directed ministers to work towards achieving that end.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has demanded Pakistan to act "decisively against anti-Iranian terrorists" in a phone call with the country's premier, Tehran said, a month after a bloody attack on security forces.

Adding that both countries should not allow the action by small terrorist groups affect the decades friendship and fraternity, Rouhani said to Mr. Khan that 'the source of whose financing and arms was known both of them'.

He said Pakistani forces had come close to the terrorists' hideout and there would soon be "good news" for Iran, IRNA reported.

Tensions between Iran and Pakistan escalated last month after a deadly vehicle bombing attack on a bus carrying Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps servicemen killed at least 27 and left 13 others wounded, with two Pakistani nationals suspected of involvement in the crime.

According to Iranian readout, Prime Minister Khan assured that his government will not allow terrorist to use his country's soil against neighbours especially Iran and "will do their best to eliminate the terrorists".

The Pakistani read out said PM Imran Khan expressed "heartfelt condolences" on the terror attack in Iran with both leaders calling for a "need for closer cooperation among the two intelligence agencies in combatting terrorism".

PM Imran Khan and Iranian President reiterated the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.

Khan told the Iranian president that Pakistan was making all efforts to improve the current situation through talks.

The PM Office, in its statement, said that President Rouhani considers Pakistan and Iran "neighbours and brotherly countries linked through centuries of closed historic cultural and people to people linkages".

The prime minister thanked the Iranian leadership for their consistent and principled support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The stability in the region and economic development would remain the focal point of these relations, Rouhani added.
