The White House has confirmed the Islamic State's caliphate in Syria is now 100-percent eliminated.

Earlier on Friday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters Islamic State no longer held any territory in Syria and that USA acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan had briefed the president on the milestone as he was traveling to Florida on Air Force One.

This comes after US - backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced they were clearing out the last areas held by ISIS in the city of Baghouz on Thursday. Other SDF officials said the camp was full of corpses, and some civilians and IS fighters were still handing themselves over.

According to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the SDF is moving slowly and carefully, and is willing to wait out the IS fighters who are out of food and low on water.

Ebute said he believed that certain assumptions as contained in the "2018 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices" on Nigeria did not reflect the reality in our country under the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

Diarrhoea kills more children in war zones than war itself
Water services must meet the requirements of marginalized groups & their voices must be heard in decision-making processes. Diarrhoea caused by dirty water and a lack of sanitation contributes to the death of a child under five every two minutes.

Trump made the comment as he showed reporters maps of the region - one showing the large areas once held by the group and a second that showed the situation on Friday with no presence. "When I came here 49 days ago, we were being told there was a mere 1,500 civilians and 500 jihadi in a larger area, but it turned out there was 30,000 civilians, many of them wives and children of ISIS jihadis, as well as a thousand jihadis still inside", he said.

US President Trump has again boasted of victory over Islamic State terrorists.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, speaking in Jerusalem, said Thursday the US-led coalition had achieved "amazing" results in Syria.

In a tweet, it said the terrorist group "has been obliterated off the map".

The Islamic State emerged in the wake of President Barack Obama's decision to withdraw all US forces from Iraq in 2011, after Iraqi leaders refused to guarantee standard immunity for American soldiers deployed there. However, if history is a guide, the reconquering of IS-held territory could prove a short-lived victory unless Iraq and Syria fix a problem that gave rise to the extremist movement in the first place: governments pitting one ethnic or sectarian group against another.
