Despite the best efforts of the Republican National Committee to close ranks behind President Donald Trump, the man who was the favorite to win the party's nomination four years ago is calling for a competitive primary in 2020.

"I think someone should run just because Republicans ought to be given a choice..."

"I think someone should run". Bush said in an interview with CNN contributor David Axelrod.

"And our country needs to have competing ideologies that people - that are dynamic, that focus on the world we're in and the world we're moving towards rather than revert back to a nostalgic time", Bush added.

In January, Bush introduced Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) at Hogan's second inauguration, saying he was "at the top of the list of leaders that I admire", and that the governor "embodies the strong independent leadership America needs now".

"I didn't realize I was part of his pre-campaign", explained the former 2016 candidate.

There are unconfirmed reports that the people (shooters) are still at large and that there are shootings in multiple locations. People cowering in corners of a room were all shot as the gunman blocked the hallway, cutting off anyone's attempt to escape.

Hogan told CNN that he has spoken to people about potentially running in 2020.

"He hasn't shifted to being president in the way that people are used to, and I think that's the problem, I would say. And I hope he learns that it's one thing to do it as a candidate when you're garnering a huge following on Twitter and people go to massive rallies where people clearly love him, [but] another thing is when you're the president [and] your words have consequences that go way beyond that", said Bush.

Not all of Bush's comments toward Trump have been negative.

Axelrod teased the quote ahead of his interview with Bush that will be aired on Saturday night.
