Sega halts Judgment shipments and digital sales in Japan following actor Pierre Taki's arrest [Update]

Before becoming an actor, Taki was a musician, co-founding the popular synthpop group Denki Groove.

Masanori Taki, better known by his stage name Pierre Taki, was taken into custody Tuesday evening on suspicion of cocaine use. No drugs were found, but the actor's urine later tested positive for cocaine.

Taki has admitted to violating the country's drug laws and using a small amount of cocaine. Like the Yakuza series, it is set in Kamurocho, the fictional city modeled after Kabukicho in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Taki plays Kyohei Hamura in Judgment.

We believe that the arrest of Mr. Pierre, who is a performer of our product JUDGE EYES: The Testament of the Grim Reaper, is highly regrettable.

How To Enable Google Chrome's Fabulous New Dark Mode
With the release of Chrome 73 on Tuesday, the browser now natively supports the dark mode long offered in macOS Mojave. In addition to this, the Chrome Lite Pages now work with secure websites apart from the regular ones.

We have heard the reports of his arrest, and are now confirming the facts of the situation, but in the meantime, we have made a decision to voluntarily halt shipments of physical copies of the game as well as digital sales, and also to remove the game from our company website. "We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause for customers, as well as the parties involved".

No word on whether western release is affected. A year later, copies of anime Kill Me Baby were pulled from circulation when voice actress Ai Takabe was arrested for cocaine possession. The next day, Sega put out a press release (in Japanese) announcing that it would voluntarily halt distribution and promotion of Judgment in response to Taki's arrest. Publisher SEGA has stated that the Western release, currently due to hit USA and Europe in June, is now "under consideration".

Some unexpected news has come out regarding Judgment, the Yakuza spin-off.

At the moment it is unclear how long this suspension of the game's sales will last or whether it'll be permanent, but Sega has engaged in a veritable campaign to remove as many traces of it as possible. Taki voices Kyohei Hamura in the game, and the character also appears to share a likeness in appearance with Taki.
