The Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association said the dismissal of the charges - without any admission of guilt by Smollett - was "an affront to prosecutors across the state" as well as police, victims of hate crimes and the county as a whole. Her office didn't have an immediate comment about the group's comments. "Ultimately, the Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack.".

Foxx dismissed the public outcry around it and said only the people "in the weeds" of the justice system would understand that it was actually commonplace and had happened thousands of times before.

The 36-year-old claimed that two Trump supporters attacked him, put a rope around his neck, poured a chemical on him, abused him with racist and homophobic slurs, and yelled "This is MAGA country!" in downtown Chicago in January.

Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx defended the surprise decision of prosecutors to drop all charges against Empire star Jussie Smollett, saying that the disorderly conduct case didn't warrant more aggressive prosecution.

Prosecutor Joseph Magats told reporters that officials dropped the case after Smollett forfeited a $10,000 (€8,900) bond payment and carried out community service.

He said Mr. Smollett had exploited hate-crime laws meant to protect minorities by turning the laws "inside out, upside down for only one thing - himself".

Sir Patrick Head returns to Williams as consultant
Head, 72, founded the team with Frank Williams in 1977 and played a key role in spearheading its auto design department. On Friday, Williams announced Sir Patrick Head will make his return to Williams in a technical consultancy role.

Prosecutors said during the hearing that they'd notify media outlets if Smollett's lawyers try to expunge his record. His voice rising in anger at times, Mayor Emanuel called the deal "a whitewash of justice" and lashed out at Mr. Smollett.

Smollett is shown leaving court on Tuesday after having all 16 felony counts against him dropped.

"They were paid for the training ... but they were also asked to do this favor for him", she said.

The actor became the subject of the investigation after he was accused of staging the attack on himself.

President Trump described the entire case as an "embarrassment to our nation" in a tweet on Thursday and has demanded a full investigation into it. The move angered police, who believed in the case they helped build against Smollett through their investigation. His attorneys maintain the same narrative, reminding skeptics that the attackers were disguised when they pulled off the attack. Investigators alleged Smollett staged the attack with the hopes of gaining attention and advancing his career.
