English soccer champions Manchester City have confirmed their rumoured kit deal with Puma after City Football Group (CFG) announced a global long-term partnership with the German sportswear brand.

Long-serving City stars Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero already have boot deals with Puma and have been involved in the online roll-out of the partnership.

The agreement is considered the second largest in the Premier League history behind their local rival Manchester United's. City will move fractionally ahead of Chelsea with their new deal, and earn nearly twice as much from their kit sponsorship as Liverpool and Arsenal.

New York City, who are also part of the City Football Group (CFG), are bound by the MLS-wide sponsorship with Adidas.

The deal will add muscle to City's mighty financial status as they will net 65m pounds a season for the next 10 years.

City, who now work in partnership with Nike, will see a new sponsorship contract kick in from the summer of 2019.

Chief executive Ferran Soriano said: "It is a historic day for us. It is an unprecedented partnership".

The deal covers men's, women's and youth teams at Melbourne City, Girona, Club Atletico Torque and the newly-acquired Chinese outfit Sichuan Jiuniu. "We needed a partner that can move fast with us".

Puma Chief Executive Bjorn Gulden declined to comment on the cost, but said the agreement included a fixed retainer, a bonus depending on sporting achievements and a royalty component.

"Our relationship with Puma, covering five City Football Group clubs across four continents, will reset the model for sports partnerships on a truly global scale whilst being locally relevant and authentic for fans around the world".

Soriano said: "I think we'll play four games". Having just one partner saves time in discussions and it allows us to do things globally.

The club is set to launch its new kit come July when they face sister club Yokohama Marinos in their pre-season tour of Asia.
