Six other entrants were also awarded the Division Two prize of $83,887.80 while 79 people won the third prize of nearly $4000.

The win comes just two months after the last single victor was awarded the largest individual lottery prize ever handed out in Australia.

· There were 287,492 tickets sold that won at least $4 in the drawing. The odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 302 million.

Hays, 49, told lottery officials she was shopping in Burlington, Iowa, and purchased two Powerball tickets at the Hy-Vee convenience store.

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Tickets cost $2 each.

Three Powerball tickets worth $50,000 each were bought in New Jersey for Wednesday night's lottery drawing, which did not have a top prize victor and the jackpot climbed to $348 million for the next drawing on Saturday. Deadline is 7:08 p.m. that day.

The next Powerball drawing will be held on Saturday at 11 p.m. EST.
