They added, "We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme". Her disappearance sparked a huge investigation involving Portuguese police and Scotland Yard, which is still pursuing leads.

The Disappearance of Madelaine McCann, a true crime doco in the same vein as Netflix hits Making a Murderer and Abducted in Plain Sight, is tipped to land in the United Kingdom on Friday, and claims to include testimony from more than 40 "experts" close to the 12-year-old case. Watch The Disappearance of Madeline McCann trailer below. But it does tease possible updates in her disappearance and story.

Despite reported sightings of her and an ongoing Metropolitan Police investigation - Operation Garage - sadly, Madeleine has never been found.

A picture of Madeleine McCann released when she went missing in 2007. They noticed that their daughter went missing at 10pm, and alerted the police which prompted a search of the resort, although the response from the Portuguese police has since been criticised for their failure to act fast enough and close the country's borders.

According to Variety, the documentary will feature new interviews from more than 40 people who are involved with the case.

Portuguese police focussed on Madeleine's parents as suspects rather than an outside abductor, which United Kingdom investigators who joined the case later claim was a mistake.

When she discovers what her husband has done, she decides to tell the school the truth. "You're right", says Uncle Jesse.

Her parents had left her and her two younger siblings, 2-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, sleeping alone and unsupervised while they dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends.

In a lengthy statement last week, Gerry and Kate McCann expressed their dismay at the upcoming release of the documentary. As someone says at the start of the trailer: "If you made a dozen movies out of this, no one would believe them".

The former Head of the Investigative Unit, Chief Inspector Gonçalo Amaral, also features in the trailer.

It was "the world's most famous missing child case".

The docu-series promises to examine every theory and suspect - and the missing toddler's parents - in a bid to piece together what happened to her. "Delve deeper for the truth" appears on the screen.
