Election Commission to announce dates of poll today at 5 pm

The BJP has fielded a number of candidates aged over 75 in the recent Assembly elections including the ones in the three central Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly was dissolved in November past year, months after the Mehbooba Mufti-headed government in the state fell following the BJP withdrawing support to it in June.

Announcing the seven-phase elections schedule across India, Chief Election Commissioner said that the Commission has been visiting the state and has been interacting with the political parties, the state administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs. From the Congress, key players in the state include Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, Harish Meena, Namo Narayan Meena, Manvendra Singh, Harish Choudhary, Mahesh Joshi while from the BJP, candidates include Vasundhara Raje, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Arjun Meghwal, PP Chaudhary. 56 inch chest failed. The Election Commission of India has ruled out holding the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2009, the EC had announced Lok Sabha poll scheduled on March 2.
