Police file sexual harassment charges against Indian fast bowler

Cricketer Mohammed Shami's World Cup participation chance suffered a huge blow after a chargesheet was filed against him and his brother for dowry and sexual harassment at Alipore court on Thursday.

The Kolkata police have charged Indian pacer Mohammed Shami with sexual harassment, India Today reported.

According to media reports, the Kolkata police submitted the chargesheet on his estranged wife Hasin Jahan's complaint. Police recorded the statement of 28 people before filling the chargesheet in the case.

Jahan, a former model, publicly accused Shami of having numerous affairs and harassment. Shami has denied her claim and termed it a conspiracy to ruin his career.

News of the cricketer's marital discord became public past year when his wife Jahan, a former model, took to Facebook to accuse him of domestic violence and extra-marital affairs with a number of women. The board's anti-corruption officials, however, dismissed the case after investigations, declaring Shami not guilty.

Shami's wife had even accused him of match-fixing following which he was omitted from the central contracts list by the BCCI pending investigations. Shami was given a Grade A central contract by BCCI and is among the strong contenders for India's squad for the 2019 World Cup.

Shami was part of the Indian team that lost the five-match ODI series 3-2 against Australia on Wednesday.
