The Italian side lost 4-3 on aggregate after an Alex Telles extra-time penalty in Portugal, having led 2-1 from the first leg.

On the heels of their controversial loss to Porto in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie, the club announced on Thursday that Eusebio has left the club after two-and-a-half years in charge.

"We all wish him well for the future".

The Giallorossi have had a disappointing season domestically, sitting outside the top four places in Italy and were dumped out of the Champions League by Porto in the round of 16.

Porto coach Sergio Conceicao, a former player at Roma's city rivals Lazio, had expressed the need for patience as his side set about attempting to retrieve a 2-1 deficit.

That decision was upheld in 2017 by a federal appeals court decision, keeping wolves protected across the region to this point. Protections for Northern Rockies states' wolves were lifted in 2011 and hundreds are now killed annually by hunters.

Cristian Panucci and Roberto Donadoni are also named as potential successors to Di Francesco.

Di Francesco, 49, took over in June 2017, leading Roma to last year's Champions League semi-finals, where they were beaten by Liverpool.

Soares came close to restoring Porto's lead early in the second half when his diving header bounced off the grass and over, and Marega then forced a fine save from goalkeeper Robin Olsen. "I know this isn't our best season and the job of a coach will always be tied to results".

Claudio Ranieri is the favorite to replace Di Francesco, and there's talk that a managerial change could happen very soon despite some pleas to keep the current manager until the end of the Serie A season.

The veteran Italian boss - who won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016 - was sacked by Fulham last week, with the club appearing destined for the drop.
