The production vehicle will be based on parent Volkswagen Group's MEB electric-car architecture that will also underpin the VW brand's upcoming I.D. family, along with Skoda models and an Audi compact EV.

SEAT has announced its new all electric vehicle, the SEAT el-Born and the auto is based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform.

"Mobility is evolving and with it, the cars we drive".

"2020 will be Seat's year of electrification", Seat CEO Luca De Meo said at the company's annual 2017 results presentation last March.

A 62kW battery pack sits under the floor, powering a 202bhp motor.

On top of that, the Seat el-Born will be able to charge thanks to 100kW DC charging: 80% charge within 47 min.

If you think it looks familiar to VW's ID hatch, then we'd agree with you.

There is no big radiator grille because there's no engine to cool - just a few air intakes to send cool air to the batteries.

There are a limited number of physical controls in the cabin, including the wiper and indicator wands, window and mirror switches, and a smattering of capacitive buttons placed on the steering wheel spokes, along the bottom of the infotainment display, and within a small pod above the driver's side air vent. He added that "we have to make customers fall in love with the idea" of an EV. A double layer spoiler at the rear also improves the car's aerodynamics to help reduce drag and improve range.

The interior of the vehicle appears near-production, and features a floating 10-inch infotainment touchscreen angled towards the driver as well as a digital instrument display.

According to the Spaniards, the el-Born is fitted with Level 2 autonomous systems and fully connected.
