The incident happened shortly after 8pm and all passengers on the Laudamotion flight bound for Vienna were safely evacuated.

One passenger, Sam Long, said on Twitter that those on board heard a "loud bang" as the plane began to accelerate before take-off.

He said: "It was scary. And then staff shouting 'evacuate evacuate".

The 24-year-old said: "My friend opened the emergency exit and we slid down the slides, a few old people fell over and the fire brigade treated them".

'No-one was seriously injured just minor things'.

All flights were grounded for around three hours while the passengers were rescued, according to Sky News.

The airline tweeted that the crew "decided to abort the take off due to engine issues and to disembark the passengers on the runway as a precautionary measure".
