Sunwolves beat Chiefs 30-15 in Super Rugby

After conceding eight tries against the Brumbies the Chiefs had some obvious work-ons this week

Flyhalf Hayden Parker was faultless off the tee as the Sunwolves capitalised on their scoring opportunities to upset the Waikato Chiefs 30-15 in Hamilton on Saturday and record their first win away from home.

In the second match of the night at Brisbane, Australia, the Christchurch, New Zealand-based Crusaders extended their winning streak to 18 matches by dominating Queensland's scrum in a 22-12 win.

This is Sunwolves' first win in the season as they moved to the fourth position in the Australian Conference while Chiefs are at bottom place in New Zealand Conference after losing all three games.

The Sunwolves, who nearly upset the New South Wales Waratahs last week before losing 31-30, have shown signs of improvement under coach Tony Brown with the side's future in the competition reportedly under scrutiny from governing body SANZAAR.

"It was really nice to score some good tries in the first half", said Parker. "The second half was pretty ugly and it felt like the game went on forever but the boys hung in and I'm proud of the way we stuck it out to the end", he said.

Chiefs scrumhalf Brad Weber said his under-pressure side could not expect to win with the number of errors they committed.

"It's pretty incredible", the Sunwolves' New Zealand-born captain Michael Little said. "Their speed of ball and the way they were able to break tackles was pretty special and we have to take a hard look at ourselves".

Lakers, Carmelo Anthony "Pausing Talks" As LAL Playoff Hopes Diminish
They are 4 1/2 games behind the No. 8-seeded San Antonio Spurs and have one of the most hard schedules remaining in the West. The Lakers also have considered signing a center to bolster its frontcourt, league sources said.

The Sunwolves started with enormous energy and scored their first try after only two minutes through flanker Shuhei Matsuhashi.

Damian McKenzie led Chiefs' response with a 23rd minute penalty goal but that was negated by Parker a few minutes later with a three-pointer of his own.

"It's tough play to come over here and get the win".

Tries from Samu Kerevi and Scott Higginbotham could not prevent the Reds from suffering back-to-back defeats.

A second try came virtually from the restart with debutant Will Jordan running nearly the length of the field as they turned on the style.

This time Diaz Bonilla managed to add the extras, and when a powerful maul towards the line resulted in a try for Julian Montoya in the 68th minute, the hosts were firmly in command, a review having indicated the hooker did not go into touch after breaking clear to score.
