But across the Pacific Ocean, the Blockbuster in Bend is experiencing a renaissance of sorts, even as the other two stores in the USA have closed within the a year ago.

The Blockbuster store in a city near central OR became the last one in the USA past year.

Haring told TODAY she was "pretty surprised" upon learning her Blockbuster would be the last one standing.

And if it weren't exciting, it would certainly be ironic.

Right now, there are just two Blockbusters left: one in the U.S. and one in Australia.

"I just wanted a part-time job", she said. "I wanted something to keep me out of the house, away from the kids, give me something to do".

Federal judge to sentence ex-Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort Thursday
Manafort, who turns 70 in April, faces potentially spending the rest of his life behind bars when he comes before Judge T.S. They also discussed a peace plan to resolve cross-border hostilities after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

For an entire generation of moviegoers the video rental store meant an endless supply of entertainment and movie history to choose from, and while most towns had their local spots, Blockbuster was the king of the ring. That lovely building is now a worker's supply store, selling, I don't know, heavy-duty coats, or something.

Despite struggling to get movies from studios, including Disney, Harding's store has persevered. And despite the dominance of streaming options like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, which largely drove Blockbuster to its demise, Harding says her store manages to log about 10 new members a day. "We were excited for us and sad for them, of course".

But it's not just locals that have been frequenting what has now become the world's last Blockbuster.

"You can go to Redbox and you can get the new titles, but they don't have the older ones", Harding said. Tourists from all over the world flock over to Bend to catch selfies and visit a capsule in time. Most people don't have that available to them anymore, which is truly sad given the memories us adults have of sorting through VHS and DVD boxes to find the flawless movie to watch. And soon it'll be the only one in the world.

As TODAY reports, the Bend location inherited the items after the Alaska store closed. Even if the mom from Bend, Oregon never saw it coming.
