Turkey slams Israeli PM Netanyahu's 'blatant racism'

The latest quarrel between the leaders of Turkey and Israel continued for a second day Wednesday as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan labeled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "thief" and a "tyrant".

Speaking at a memorial ceremony for former Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Tel Aviv has developed ties with 6 states in the region despite their animosity towards Israel over the past decades.

"We are advancing that process of recognition and agreement with the rest of our neighbours, not all of them, but with most of them", Netanyahu said.

"The Arab citizens [in Israel] have 22 nation states around them and they do not need another", he answered in response to a question about the controversial Jewish Nation-State Law.

"1.6 million Arabs/Muslims live in Israel".

On Saturday, actress Rotem Sela denounced Mr Netanyahu's frequent talking point that his political rival will form a government with Arab political parties.

Netanyahu reacted with his own Instagram post, telling Sela: "Israel is not a state of all its citizens".

To which Mr Netanyahu responded: Israel "is the national state, not of all its citizens, but only of the Jewish people".

Gadot, star of "Wonder Woman", jumped to Sela's defence.

Khashoggi murder perpetrators brought to justice, Saudi tells UN
Addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council, Dr.al-Aiban said "we are horrified at Khashoggi killing" and that it was a " heinous crime " and an " unfortunate accident ".

The Israeli prime minister responded in his tweet.

He was referring to a well-known quote from renowned scientist Albert Einstein, adding a video showing a spat between Erdogan and Israeli then-president Shimon Peres at a Davos Summit held in 2009.

He went on to condemn the "entirely unacceptable remarks about the Arab citizens of Israel".

Netanyahu has been criticized for demonizing and marginalizing the country's Arab population, which makes up around 17.5 percent of the total population.

"There are no, and there will be no, second-class citizens, and there are no second-class voters", Mr Rivlin said.

Netanyahu's initial comment had come amid an online spat sparked by Israel's right-wing firebrand culture minister Miri Regev, ahead of April elections and subsequently joined by Israeli Hollywood star Gal Gadot.

There is no love lost between leaders of Israel and Turkey.

The much criticised by both public figures and Israeli population nation-state law, passed in 2018, grants only Jewish people the right to self-determination and declares Hebrew as the only official language of Israel, stripping Arabic of the same status. "One hundred and twenty Knesset members can not change its character as a Jewish state; and 120 MKs won't be able to change its democratic character", he said.
