Stone was indicted in January for obstruction, false statements and witness tampering, and he denies Cohen's allegations. They could have made it two days later or next week'.

It was a stunning turn for a man who served as Trump's lawyer and all-purpose fixer for more than a decade, a role he once embraced with unapologetic ferocity - pledging to take a bullet on the mogul's behalf as evidence of his loyalty. Cohen's testimony may pose a problem for Trump Jr., who told Congress in 2017 that was only "peripherally aware" of the proposal.

During 10 years of service, Michael Cohen says, he threatened hundreds of people on behalf of his boss, Donald J. Trump: he strong-armed contractors, browbeat reporters and warned schools against releasing Trump's grades.

Cohen has already pleaded guilty to lying to Congress.

He testified about a conversation in 2016 where he said Trump put Roger Stone on speakerphone while the longtime advisor said Julian Assange told him of an imminent dump of emails that would be harmful to Hillary Clinton.

Cohen said he had no direct evidence that Trump or his campaign colluded with Moscow during the election campaign.

Cohen, who was President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, has made a number of allegations against the president during the hearing, calling the president "racist" and a "conman".

At Wednesday's hearing Cohen said Trump never explicitly told him to lie to Congress about the Moscow skyscraper negotiations.

"Trump is a cheat", Cohen testified. Cohen said. "I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump's illicit acts rather than listen to my own conscience".

Pressure on top figures in Trump's business could force them and others to cooperate in hopes of gaining leniency, much as some pivotal figures from Trump's campaign, including Michael Flynn and Rick Gates, ultimately agreed to assist investigators.

"Ask Miss Patton how many people who are black executives at the Trump Organization". Cohen, Cummings has noted, stood to make "a hell of a lot more money outside the White House than in the White House".

Last year, Cohen implicated Trump in a crime, saying he directed him to violate campaign finance laws.

One is a new MI6 agent and the other is a friend to James Bond not unlike Olga Kurylenko's character in Quantum of Solace . Producers have reportedly met with other actors to play the role, but Malek has always been the top choice, apparently.

A poster propped behind Republicans grilling Michael Cohen set out their strategy in five words: "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!" (One for tabloid chief David Pecker would be a doozy.) The hearings are diagrammed to get rid of Trump just the same, but the preferred means will be the 2020 ballot.

Cohen also testified that, contrary to Mr Trump's repeated claims, he did have advance knowledge of a meeting at Trump Tower in Manhattan between his campaign aides and a Russian lawyer promising "dirt" on Mrs Clinton.

Cohen says Weisselberg decided that reimbursements to Cohen should be spread out over 12 months to "hide what the payment was".

Cohen also alleged that Trump intentionally inflated his financial assets when it suited his needs.

And according to Cohen, the coverup afterward.

He said Mr Trump had not released his tax returns because he feared that public scrutiny would lead to an audit and tax penalties. Others have cast doubt on that, suggesting it was a different executive at the company. "Quite a few times", on some 500 occasions, Trump ordered Cohen to threaten people.

"The last time I appeared before Congress, I came to protect Mr. Trump".

So when did Cohen actually lie to Congress-then or now? That would make his business seem less risky and lead to lower premiums - and, if true, could constitute insurance fraud.

"And I said: 'I wonder why he didn't lie about that, too, like he did about everything else?'"

Being around Mr. Trump was intoxicating.

Donald Trump's ex-lawyer has claimed Mr Trump wanted him to lie about a property deal in Moscow amid his election campaign.
