Alex Ovechkin knocks out Andrei Svechnikov in brutal fight By Ian Oland  0 Comment

Ovechkin's Washington Capitals now lead their first round playoff series with the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0.

During tonight's game three matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes, Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin chose to drop the gloves with Andrei Svechnikov. Svechnikov struggled to stand and was helped off the ice and taken to the dressing room. After some chatter, the Hurricanes' rookie and debatably the greatest goal scorer in National Hockey League history dropped the gloves. Svechnikov, a Russian scoring winger, had said earlier in the series that Ovechkin is someone he looked up to growing up.

Ovechkin has fought just four times in his career and never before in the playoffs.
