Ashton Hagans Will Return to Kentucky for Sophomore Season

Ashton Hagans announced Tuesday via his Instagram account that he plans to return to the Wildcats for his sophomore season. The staff challenged me from day one to become the best version of myself and to work hard to become one of the best players in college basketball. "I can't wait to watch his continued growth".

Ashton was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year alongside LSU's Tremont Waters.

The Georgia native started 30 of 37 games for Kentucky, providing a spark when he entered the lineup at the end of December.

He missed the first two games of the NCAA tournament with a sprained foot, but he returned to score 16 points in a Sweet 16 victory over Houston and had 28 points and 13 rebounds in an overtime loss to Auburn in the Elite 8.

Hicks was immediately arrested and charged with premeditated first-degree murder and carrying a concealed, unlicensed firearm. Deputies said when Hicks returned he physically fought with Brewer before shooting him a few times , including in the head.

He had 10 games with three or more steals and tied Shai GIlgeous-Alexander for most steals (61) by a freshman in program history. Hagans' freshman pinnacle came when he set a United Kingdom record for steals in a game with eight against North Carolina.

Hagans will be part of what could be an extremely deep United Kingdom backcourt next season.

"I'm so proud of PJ and what he's accomplished over the last two seasons", Kentucky coach John Calipari said in a statement.

He is expected to be challenged for playing time at the point next season by current freshman teammate Immanuel Quickley and incoming high school point guard Tyrese Maxey, who is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 2 point guard in the recruiting class of 2019. "He had a wonderful season but he's not satisfied". That's all I needed to hear.
