Tiger Woods won his fifth green jacket and 15th major championship on Sunday after finishing 12 under par at The Masters tournament at Augusta National, but the day was also a big win for bettors and a losing one for sportsbooks in Las Vegas and New Jersey.

The bookies took the loss with good grace though, celebrating Woods' victory on Twitter.

What's even crazier? It was the first wager ever placed by the unidentified customer at William Hill, which will mark the occasion by presenting the bettor with his check in person Monday afternoon.

The unidentified bettor earned a record $1.19 million payout from William Hill after Woods triumphed Sunday at Augusta National following an eventful final round to claim his first major title in nearly 11 years.

It was the largest payout on a golf ticket in the history of William Hill U.S. and the fourth time overall that the sportsbook at the SLS has paid out a seven-figure win.

"Watching the green jacket presentation in Butler cabin and realizing that nobody likes Patrick Reed", said another one.

President Donald Trump and Barack Obama were among those hailing Tiger Woods on social media after his 11-year major drought was ended by a thrilling and emotional Masters victory on Sunday.

Adducci does not have children, but golf is special for him and his father, who advised him against placing the bet.

Other celebrities offered words of congratulations after Woods' history-making win."Do you believe in redemption???.YES!" If that's not a bro move, then I don't know what is.

Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill US, authorized the bet after getting a call from the sportsbook.

"This is a story for the ages", Asher said. "Tiger climbs back to the top, and a guy from Wisconsin, on his first sports bet ever, wins over $1 million betting on him". Adducci said he is now considering using the money for other bets.
