Boeing 737 Max test flights with new software are underway

Boeing, fighting its biggest crisis in years, has been developing an upgrade to software that is under scrutiny in the Ethiopian Airlines accident and a Lion Air 737 MAX crash that killed all 189 on board on October 29.

A class-action lawsuit accuses the company of covering up safety problems with its 737 MAX.

The 737 MAX was once Boeing's fastest-selling plane, but the company had zero new orders in the month of March for the plane, which remain grounded worldwide.

Kevin Durkin, an attorney representing Stumo's family, says more than 20 whistleblowers have come forward, including pilots and Boeing engineers, who raised concerns about the plane and pilot training. Instead, it pushed the stock up to artificial highs by speaking optimistically about future sales before a second fatal crash in March sent shares tumbling, he says.

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The suit filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of IL seeks class action status for all Boeing shareholders who bought stock between January 8 and March 21.

The company misled investors "by touting its growth prospects and profitability, raising guidance, and maintaining that the Boeing 737 MAX was the safest airplane to fly the skies", the lawsuit alleges.

Elon Musk Is Trolling Jeff Bezos
The Musk-Bezos feud has been going on for a while, with Musk taunting Bezos about the size of his rockets back in 2015. Amazon's Project Kuiper is basically the same idea but on a much smaller scale, with only 3,236 satellites planned.

The suit, which seeks damages for alleged securities fraud violations, said Boeing's market value plunged by almost US$20 billion after an Ethiopian Airlines jet crashed shortly after take off on March 10, killing all 157 on board. Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg and Chief Financial Officer Gregory Smith are reportedly named among the defendants. All 346 aboard the two flights died.

Last week, Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg said it was "apparent" that MCAS had been activated in both crashes after sensors fed the system erroneous information.

The Max has been involved in two crashes overseas, including one last month in Ethiopia. American Airlines and United also had extended Max-related cancellations through June 5.

Last week, Boeing announced it would be reducing its production of the 737 Max planes as it works to make safety changes following two fatal crashes involving the planes.

The suit against the Chicago-based company, filed Tuesday by Richard Seeks in a federal court in IL, seeks unspecified damages on behalf of shareholders in the wake of two fatal crashes of the plane.

The FAA has for decades delegated some certification duties to Boeing and other manufacturers.

The company already is facing multiple lawsuits over the deaths in the crashes.
