Norm Wood of the Daily Press reports that Williams will have to pay Virginia Tech $500,000 to break his contract. While serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M for two seasons under coach Billy Gillispie (2004-05 and 2005-06), the Aggies made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25-years in 2005-06. Williams had been in Blacksburg for five seasons.

To say Buzz Williams changed the culture at Virginia Tech is an understatement.

"I am so humbled and honored to return home to Texas A&M, and proud to lead the Aggies", Williams said.

Babcock went on to call Virginia Tech "one of the most attractive jobs in the nation's top basketball conference, the ACC", and said there would be no further comment on the school's search for a new coach. During his time there, he also helped put multiple players in the National Basketball Association, like Wes Matthews and Jimmy Butler. Over the last four seasons, Tech went 89-47 and 42-30 in the ACC. Since then, the Hokies have posted four straight winning seasons with at least 20 wins and made the NCAA tournament in each of the last three seasons.

Williams' a year ago at Tech was his best, winning a school-record 26 games and leading the team to its first Sweet 16 since 1967. The Hokies spread the floor and blitzed opponents with a roster of 3-point gunners. The 46-year-old finished his Virginia Tech career with an overall record of 100-69 and an ACC record of 44-46.

The Buzz's Bunch Scholarship Endowment will continue to be awarded annually to an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech in any field of study who is registered with Services for Students with Disabilities.

Williams experienced similar success at Marquette, his first major coaching job.

Speaking of NAW, it's interesting to take a look at Tech's roster.

The Hokies will begin next season without key seniors Justin Robinson, Ahmed Hill and Ty Outlaw, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker is expected to enter the NBA Draft this offseason. Who knows what will happen with redshirt junior center Kerry Blackshear Jr.?
