Singer-songwriter Camila Cabello will star in writer-director Kay Cannon's re-telling of "Cinderella" for Sony Pictures.

Camila Cabello began her career as a member of Fifth Harmony, the former five-piece girl band that was formed after each woman auditioned for X-Factor and Simon Cowell put them all in a group.

Sudan Protesters Rally outside Army HQ for 2nd Day
Outside the army complex, protesters sang nationalist songs, whistling and clapping as they pressed on with the rally. Sunday's protests coincided with a nationwide blackout that the electricity ministry blamed on a technical glitch.

Though plot details haven't been released, the story is reportedly a modern reimagining of the classic fairy tale in which an orphaned girl turns into a princess. Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect comedies, earned three Emmy nominations for NBC's 30 Rock and directed last year's comedy Blockers, will direct. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sony, the studio behind the project, is moving along full steam ahead. She made her directorial debut with Universal's comedy "Blockers", starring Kathryn Newton, Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and John Cena. She went solo and hit superstar status with her single, Havana, which hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and Artist 100 charts in the same week.

The new take on the film was an idea that came from James Corden, known for his late night show and widely popular carpool karaoke. Her debut album, Camila, also broke records when it debuted at No. 1 on 110 iTunes charts around the world.
