The PSG striker had already bagged a goal for Paris Saint-Germain in their Ligue 1 clash against Strasbourg on Monday (NZT) when he came up with a miss for the ages in the 28th minute.

I have watched this replay dozens of times, and I still have no idea what Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was thinking during Sunday's Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg.

Sandwiched in between Strasbourg's two goals was a scarcely believable blooper from Choupo-Moting, the forward inexplicably stopping team-mate Christopher Nkunku's chip over goalkeeper Matz Sels on the line with his left foot just as the ball was about to roll into the net.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting may well have earned the honour of the world's worst football miss of the season.

Victory would have given PSG their eighth Ligue 1 title after Lille earlier drew 1-1 at Stade de Reims but Sunday's draw left Thomas Tuchel's side on 81 points from 30 games.

The Cameroon striker had given PSG a 13th-minute lead but Strasbourg equaliser through Nuno Da Costa and Anthony Goncalves gave the visitors the advantage before the break.

Jose Fonte eventually put Lille ahead in the second half, profiting from woeful marking at a corner, but Europa League-hopefuls Reims pegged them back late on, doing PSG a favour.

Onside, with no defenders between him and the goals, and the ball rolling onto the goalline, Choupo-Moting did, well... this.

We could call this an embarrassing miss (because it was), but really, Choupo-Moting shouldn't have touched the ball at all.

The former Stoke City frontman turned from hero to villain when his unnecessary intervention stopped Nkunku making it 2-1 to PSG.
