Former NFL running back Cierre Wood and his girlfriend, Amy Taylor, were arrested and charged with first-degree child abuse charges after the death of a 5-year old girl, according to multiple reports.

KLAS-TV reports that Las Vegas police arrested Wood on Wednesday and added the murder charge Thursday.

They are facing first-degree child abuse charges, although the details of the allegations against them have not yet been released.

Wood played for Notre Dame from 2009-2012 and entered the 2013 draft but was not picked up; he later signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans, for whom he played in only three games and carried the ball a total of 9 yards.

Wood's played in the National Football League from 2013-15, spending most of his career on practice squads with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said 5-year-old La-Rayah Davis died as a result of child abuse. His last couple of seasons in professional football have been spent north of the border in the Canadian Football League, where he was now a free agent.

Wood, 28, paid a $5,000 bond and was released, according to jail records. Both Cierre and Amy were expected to appear in court this morning.
