Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, charged with attempted homicide of a 5-year-old boy thrown or pushed from a third-floor balcony at Minnesota's Mall of America, is seen in this combination photo from police released pictures in Bloomington, Minnesota, U.S., on April 12, 2019. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The complaint says Aranda is now wanted on a warrant for assault in the state of IL, and a conviction for first degree damage to property in Hennepin County. "That a child, with his mother, at a safe public area like a mall, could be violently attacked for no reason is chilling for everyone".

"The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of support from the community", the statement said.

The boy, who has not been publicly identified, remains in critical condition, his family said in a statement through the Bloomington Police Department.

They asked for privacy and declined to be interviewed.

About 10:15 a.m. Friday, Aranda was back at the mall and allegedly approached the victim and his mother as they were outside of the Rainforest Café on the third floor with another parent and child. Aranda was ordered to stay away from the mall for a year and ignored the order.

The boy's mother told officers that she and her son were standing in front of the Rain Forest Cafe with a friend and her child when a man they didn't know, later identified as Aranda, approached them and came very close. At that point, the suspect picked up the child without warning and threw him off the balcony.

Brooklyn Nets upset Philadelphia 76ers in play-off opener
Brett Brown is one of the better coaches in the league, and it'll be interesting to see what adjustments he makes between games. Now with home court advantage, the Nets look to steal another road game and go back to Brooklyn with a commanding 2-0 lead.

The child landed on the first floor near several witnesses described in the complaint as "distraught". Medical personnel said he had multiple fractured bones in his arms and legs, was bleeding from the head and had massive head trauma.

Officers found him at a bus stop across the street and arrested him without incident. Police coordinated with mall security who monitored his flight via surveillance cameras.

After throwing the boy from the balcony, Aranda fled the scene but was arrested elsewhere at the mall a short time later, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said on Friday.

Family members have told KSTP that Aranda has had a history of mental illness, including violent tendencies since childhood, even with his own family members. He said he had come to the mall that day looking for someone to kill, but it did not "work out". He went back Friday looking to kill an adult, but chose the child instead.

"Defendant indicated he had been coming to the Mall for several years and had made efforts to talk to women in the Mall, but had been rejected", the complaint said. That rejection caused him to lash out and be aggressive.

Aranda was arrested previously at MOA for throwing items off another balcony, damaging merchandise inside a store and for throwing a glass of water and a glass of tea inside a restaurant after he harassed her about buying him something and she refused. He was arrested in October of 2015 and convicted with obstructing legal process, fifth degree assault and trespassing.
