De Ligt can't stay at Ajax next season

De Ligt is giving little away as the rumours swirl, however, but admits that he is a big fan of fellow defenders Giorgio Chielleini and Leonardo Bonucci and has not ruled out the possibility of lining up next to the pair in the future.

"I really like Chiellini - he is very strong, one of the best ever defenders", he told Tuttosport. "They are two of the best centre-backs in Europe and two examples to follow for a young player like me".

"[A move to Juventus] could happen, but there are others who are also interested", the Netherlands global told Tuttosport.

"We've seen that he's good in the aerial duels, one-on-ones, but he's still finding it hard to play in small spaces. That's why so many clubs are after him, despite him his young age".

De Ligt is contracted to Ajax until 2021 and is expected to be valued in the region of £64m.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona are confident of quickly sealing a deal for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt after Bayern Munich cooled their interest.

Juventus may still have some work to do though to beat Barcelona to his signature.

Speaking on De Telegraaf's Kick-Off Eredivisie show, head of sports Valentijn Driessen claimed that the deal to take De Ligt to Barcelona is now a certainty.

This is because of a growing relationship between the two clubs which they see as mutually beneficial moving forward.

Juventus have said they will not rush the 34-year-old back but de Ligt says he will not be fazed if he is tasked with shackling the competition's all-time top goalscorer.
