‘I sh*t on your mother’: Diego Costa facing extended ban for referee rant as star sees red vs Barca

Antoine Griezmann, who rejected a move to Barcelona last summer was met with jeers from the home faithful on his first visit to the Camp Nou since his much publicised decision.

Diego Costa was sent off in the 28th minute at Camp Nou after insulting referee Gil Manzano but while Atletico held on for nearly another hour, Suarez and Messi struck late to seal a pivotal 2-0 win.

The striker, 30, launched tore towards the referee, launching into a rant while approaching his face.

Even more remarkably, 53 of those strikes have come from either Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez, with the Argentinian on target 33 times and his partner grabbing 20 for himself.

If Costa is banned for eight games, he will be out for the rest of the season as the club only have seven league games left to play.

Costa earned the dismissal for insulting the referee's mother, allegedly yelling: "I sh** on your fu*** mother". "We must be doing something wrong".

"No, at Barcelona, at this stage of the season, we do not talk about players, and certainly not about players of other teams", Bartomeu stated when asked about the Frenchman. "If the referee interprets that there was an insult, he's deservedly sent off, but it's not always the same [outcome for every player]". "After that, anyone can be sent off", said Simeone following the loss.
