Two Singaporean researchers highlighted the incidents in a letter to a medical journal last July. This means existing options for infected patients are incredibly limited. However, tests showed that the invasive fungus was everywhere inside the room, from the bed to the doors and walls to everything else inside, according to Gulf News. However, some C. auris infections have been resistant to all three main classes of antifungal medications, making them more hard to treat.

Of the three patients here, one recovered, one died, and another's condition was inconclusive as the patient had left the country.

Candida auris cases have been reported across the world since it first turned up in Japan in 2009.

What makes C. auris particularly alarming is its tenacity. According to the authors, the patient was discharged four months later with her "wounds healing well".

Past year in the month of May, an elderly man was admitted to the Brooklyn branch of Mount Sinai Hospital for abdominal surgery and to the hospital's surprise, the man's blood test revealed he was infected with a newly discovered germ as deadly as it was mysterious, TOI reports. However, the man later returned to Bangladesh against medical advice after just 10 days of treatment here. The first involved a 24-year-old Bangladeshi male who flew to Singapore to seek medical treatment, while the second involved a 69-year-old USA male citizen who was suffering from a lung disease. He was transferred to the hospital in Singapore, where he suffered complications such as cardiac arrest and brain tissue death.

Reports of C. auris have come from Venezuela, Spain, Great Britain, India, Pakistan, and South Africa, according to the Times.

Worldwide cases of an infection known as Candida auris have become an "urgent threat", unveiling the dangers of drug-resistant germs for both bacteria and fungi from a cloud of secrecy over fear of public hysteria, The New York Times reported.

The hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it as everything in the room was positive.

People who have recently spent time in nursing homes and have lines and tubes that go into their body (such as breathing tubes, feeding tubes and central venous catheters), seem to be at highest risk for C. auris infection.
