Fisher-Price recalls sleepers after more than 30 babies died

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows the Fisher Price Rock 'n Play Sleeper

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows the Fisher Price Rock 'n Play Sleeper

The CPSC said the recall involved 4.7 million Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play Sleepers.

The CPSC says more than 30 infant fatalities have occurred in the sleepers since the product's introduction in 2009.

Parents will be given a full refund or voucher once contacting Fisher-Price. But, Hoffman said, "we feel like this is a unsafe product".

In a statement, Fisher-Price owner Mattel confirmed the voluntary recall but stood by the product's safety.

An Australian recall of the Rock 'n Play sleeper - which is a soft padded cradle that vibrates - has not been announced, but online retailers including Amazon, Fishpond, Target and Ubuy Australia have removed the sleeper from their websites, according to the Daily Telegraph. They asked customers to stop using the popular baby sleeper if their children are able to roll over, which infants typically begin to do around three months.

In December 2017, Keenan and Evan Overton awoke to find their 5-month-old son Ezra on his stomach unresponsive, CBS News' Jan Crawford reported.

"This product is deadly and should be recalled immediately", said AAP President Dr. Kyle Yasuda, MD, FAAP, in his organization's statement.

Like many other parents, the Rock 'n Play was a huge help in her home. "I am glad to see this product off the market and urge all parents to talk to their pediatricians about how to keep their babies safe during sleep time and any time". Tragically, that is not the case.

The American Academy of Pediatrics called for the recall earlier in the week , citing a Consumer Reports story that determined that 32 infant deaths were tied to the device.

Elevated rockers and bassinets come with warnings that babies should be always strapped in to the seat.

Fisher-Price had warned customers to stop using the sleeper once infants can roll over.
