Last night's battle episode was 96 minutes of tension, horror, and excitement that made last week's episode seem like more of a relief in retrospect. But by the time we got to the last scene of the night, Arya proved that she has a lot more going for her than just serious killing skills. While some viewers complained Arya had little involvement in the show's White Walker storyline up to this point, others took to Twitter to point out that Arya had been preparing for this moment since the earliest days of the series. Bran - who was useless the entire battle and seemingly serves no other narrative objective now than witness to Jon's parentage - offered no insight either, preferring to remain cryptic rather than clear about what the heck was going on.

Arya showed the Night King, leader of the white walkers and overall creepy as hell zombie dude, that the living are here to stay.

Another Bran-centric theory that's on the rise right now is the idea that Bran will turn Jon Snow into the next Night King by plunging a dragonglass dagger into him the way the Children of the Forest did to him at the weirwood tree all those millennia ago. The Night King isn't terribly concerned, promptly breaks Theon's spear in half, and stabs it straight through Theon's gut. "And she's like, 'I'm midway through episode one.' And I'm like: This scene, this page, read it!"

Part of why I had wanted the Night King to win so badly was because it would have required him to have a more compelling motivation beyond just being pure unrelenting evil.

Both Arya and Melisandre remembered her prophecy for Arya - "Brown eyes, green eyes, and blue eyes, eyes you'll shut forever". Why is the Night King impervious to dragonfire when wights are hyperflammable? Considering he has a magical army full of dead people, this battle was a real long shot.

Because if he didn't score the goal , he would have been seen as a laughing stock because he had such a bad game". I was looking at the referee saying 'what is going on?'.

The New York Jets thought they would jump in on the fun from Sunday night's epic battle, which resulted in Arya Stark sticking a Valyrian steel blade through the Night King and (seemingly) ending the war against the army of the dead.

It's a huge victory for Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and of course, Arya, who over the past few seasons has become an absolute boss.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 had been billed as a battle for the ages.

Interested in Game of Thrones? Whatever Game of Thrones had been trying to say, either about the inevitability of death or the power of the living, is now lost again to squabbles over a crown. "You're a good man. Thank you".

Fans also tracked hints in the series - and some coincidental developments - that supported Arya's fate as slayer of the Night King. Her Water Dance and sword fighting teacher, Syrio Forel, the former First Sword of Braavos, asked her the same question as he faced his own death at the hand of Ser Meryn Trant in King's Landing. And on Sunday night, that was the biggest and most disheartening twist of all: There wasn't.
