Los Angeles County gas prices spiked again over the weekend, with the average price climbing about 10 cents a gallon to $3.88 as of Monday, the latest AAA figures show.

In the San Luis Obispo area, the average price was $3.86 a gallon on Sunday, the most recent day for which data is available, according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan.

DeHaan forecasts the average price in California will hit $4 for a gallon of regular gasoline by the end of this week - something no state has experienced in almost the past five years.

Finally, there's something good about Monday mornings. While Saturday proved to be the most expensive day to buy gas in 16 states, the worst day for Michiganders is Thursday.

Monday was also the best day to buy gas in 2018 and 2017, according to GasBuddy's previous study.

Prices on average were slightly lower in the North and South counties, primarily sticking in the $3.50 to $3.90 range, with a few exceptions.

Gas prices have ticked upward $0.50 per gallon over the last 90 days.

Sacramento County prices remain near the American Automobile Association's $3.80 state average.

"It's stressful because there's a lot of other stuff you have to pay for, you know, food and everything else, so with gas prices going up, it's just an extra amount you have to account for", driver Edwin Tribueros said.

The high prices will last at least another week or two, before they'll start coming back down, DeHaan said.
