This is why there are many reports of unexperienced Android fans deleting Google Play Services from their smartphones in order to free up storage space only to be left wondering to why their apps and mobile games are not working anymore. Now it appears the rumors are true, as multiple Pixel owners have reported seeing a "Google System Update" notification on Android Q Beta 2. However, there is one thing that Google's Android arguably does better and that is the fact that Google's Android operating system offers a premium user experience and this is all thanks to Google Play Services. System updates have been accessed through the Settings app for Android's entire history, so moving them to the Play Store would be an interesting move. The malware named Exodus not only have advanced spying features but also have a capability of rooting devices.

With these phones, Exodus could extract passwords, chat logs, contact details and more.

Any Android phones that are updated recently are immune to Exodus, but to root devices malware used an exploit called DirtyCOW, which was repaired by software giant in 2016.

The existence of Exodus has been unveiled via a blog post online following an investigation performed by Security Without Borders and Motherboard. Last month it was exposed that malware also make its way onto iOS devices.

In a post online the IT security firm Lookout said: "For the past year, Lookout researchers have been tracking Android and iOS surveillance-ware, that can exfiltrate contacts, audio recordings, photos, location, and more from devices".

A couple of Pixel users have taken to Reddit to confirm their Android Q beta updates have arrived via Google Play Store.

"The iOS versions were available outside the app store, through phishing sites, and abused the Apple Developer Enterprise programme".
