Google Warns Employees After a Worker with Measles Visited HQ

Buzzfeed reported that a physician at Google sent a letter to employees notifying them that a worker who had visited the tech giant's office at 1295 Charleston Road on April 4 had recently been diagnosed with measles.

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department said the case doesn't relate to any broader outbreak in the area.

The April 4 incident at Google is not related to four recent cases of measles reported in Santa Clara County, where measles vaccination rates are at almost 97 per cent, reported ABC 7 News.

Google employees themselves may be Googling information about measles after a warning from the company and Santa Clara County.

An email was sent out last week to Google employees by David Kaye, an occupational medicine physician, according to BuzzFeed News.

Google did not immediately return a request for comment.

Meanwhile, health officials in San Mateo County, where the unnamed worker lives, are trying to track the patient's movements while infected to find out who else might have been exposed.

YouTube, the video website owned by Google, has been criticised for allowing so-called anti-vax videos to proliferate.

The measles is a highly contagious disease that can linger and infect people, even when the sick person is not present.

Other alarming measles outbreak stories have also been surfacing in other parts of the country.

A worker infected with measles visited Google's Northern California campus earlier this month, according to a report Wednesday. In a March statement, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health revealed that a traveler carrying measles had passed through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on February 21.

Measles can be prevented by receiving two vaccinations, the first at 13 months old and the second at three years and four months to five years old.
