Hacker group leaks hundreds of law officer records

Hackers posted spreadsheets with information of employees of the FBI, Secret Service, Capitol Police and other federal agencies including names, personal and government email addresses, job titles, phone numbers and postal addresses, reported TechCrunch. That is the common procedure for hacks like this: a group of hackers will usually cast a wide net in search of vulnerable websites, break into the ones they find, gather as much information as they can, and sell that data to the highest bidder. The information included many files that contained personal information of law enforcement officers and federal agents.

The group's executive director, Howard Cook, said it was looking into whether sites were breached.

The hackers reportedly penetrated the sites through security flaws, downloaded each of their web servers, and posted the data to their own website. The hacker shared that the group is sorting out the data to be sold later, but have already published bits of it as a teaser to show they had something "interesting" on their hands.

A hacker group believed to be based in Ukraine has uploaded more than one thousand USA law officers' personal information, TechCrunch scooped Friday. One of them led to a subdomain belonging to Taiwan-based electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn. The hacker noted that the group did it for "experience and money".
